What is the Participatory Budget?
Participatory budgeting is a mechanism designed to encourage citizen participation. It allows residents to decide how a portion of the city’s financial resources is spent.
Specifically, the city is providing a budget allocation (CHF 100,000) to fund projects designed, selected, and carried out by the public.
Goals
The Participatory Budget funds projects initiated by Nyon-based associations or collectives composed of at least three people. In particular, it aims to foster a sense of legitimacy in participating in civic life through public and participatory initiatives. It allows residents to decide how a portion of a city’s financial resources is spent, giving them real decision-making power.
How does it work?
The process will take place in 4 steps:
1. Project submission (April–June 2026);
2. Feasibility study and approval by the City (July–September 2026);
3. Promotion and voting on projects by residents (October 2026);
4. Implementation of the winning projects (beginning in November 2026, with follow-up by the City of Nyon).
