Participatory Budgeting in Detail

Participatory budgeting is an initiative that encourages the development of neighborhood projects and gives residents the opportunity to decide how the city’s financial resources are allocated using a budget provided by the municipality (CHF 100,000). Projects must be proposed by groups of at least three people residing in Nyon. Funding for projects is not allocated through political decisions or strategic choices but by the residents of Nyon. Residents are called upon to vote for their favorite projects. The projects that receive the most votes are then carried out by the winners themselves.

Quick Guide

1. Do you have an idea for a project to develop your neighborhood? Read the guidelines, team up with at least two residents, and submit your project on this platform.

2. Your project will be reviewed by the relevant city departments to ensure it meets technical and legal requirements.

3. If your project meets the requirements, it moves on to the voting and promotion phase! Nyon residents will vote for their favorite projects (at least 3).

4. The projects that receive the most votes will be funded.

How do I submit a project?

To submit a project, simply fill out the form and provide the budget requested on this platform. You do not need to be part of an organization to submit a project, but you must partner with at least two other people. You’ll need to find 10 sponsors who support your project by collecting signatures. Their commitment is purely moral: it does not obligate them financially or require their involvement in the project. It simply shows that they find your project interesting.

The Feasibility Study

Once you have submitted your project, the City must verify that it is technically and legally feasible. This objective analysis ensures that only projects that are actually feasible are put to a vote.

The Vote

In this phase, projects are presented to Nyon residents via the digital platform. Residents then vote for their favorite projects through the platform. This vote determines which of the projects submitted and approved by the Administration will be implemented. Voting takes place online on the dedicated platform.

An alternative solution will be offered to those who do not use the internet.
