The Stand’s Solidarity Cargo Ships

Your project in two lines:
Create a service offering two shared electric cargo bikes, accessible to residents of an eco-neighborhood in Nyon to facilitate daily travel, reduce car use, and strengthen ties between neighbors.
The goal of your project
Our project aims to provide a sustainable, accessible, and user-friendly mobility solution through shared electric cargo bikes. These bikes will allow families, seniors, and neighborhood residents to transport children, groceries, or equipment without using their cars. Our neighborhood already has many strengths: • A 30 km/h speed-limited section of Route du Stand that promotes active transportation, • A community bike workshop—the Rus’tines workshop (a partnership with Pro-Vélo La Côte), • A social network for mutual aid among neighborhood residents, • Several bike storage facilities with over four hundred bicycles, • A daycare center—Les Bottines, • A neighborhood community space to be redefined. Cargo bikes will complement this ecosystem by offering a useful community service for everyday life. Beyond simply being a mode of transportation, this project will foster social connections, mutual aid, the ecological transition, and quality of life.
Your project in detail:

Today, many daily trips are still made by car when they could be made by cargo bike.

For many families, the cost of purchasing a cargo bike is a major barrier.

By providing two shared cargo bikes, the project will:

  • make it easier for families to get around;

  • to support older adults or people with limited mobility with certain errands or short trips;

  • reduce local car traffic;

  • strengthen ties between neighbors through shared equipment.

The cargo bikes will be made available to neighborhood residents through a simple reservation system. The two cargo bikes to be purchased will be selected through a participatory process involving the members of our association—L’Eco du Boiron.

They can be used to:

  • Taking children to school,

  • Running errands without a car,

  • Transporting equipment for activities organized in the neighborhood by various working groups,

  • Helping a neighbor with a small move or transporting bulky items,

  • Encouraging cycling in a residential area where the speed limit is 30 km/h.

The project relies on existing shared infrastructure:

  • A bike workshop that can assist with routine maintenance and teach people how to use bikes throughout their lifespan,

  • A messaging group to facilitate coordination among future participants,

  • A neighborhood space serving as an information and meeting hub,

  • A social network for mutual support among neighborhood residents,

  • (La) Dream-Tines – Pédibus Couchant, or the walking bus between the neighborhood and the Couchant school,

  • 2 shared cars, one of which is electric,

  • As well as the following shared spaces:

    • 3 shared laundry rooms,

    • 2 common rooms,

    • 5 shared guest rooms,

    • A DIY workshop with shared tools,

    • two shared rooftop terraces,

    • La Racine, a communal vegetable garden,

    • A shared music room—La Boîte à Musique.

The bicycles will be shared resources available to the 133 households in the eco-neighborhood.

Ultimately, this project could serve as a model for developing other similar initiatives in neighborhoods throughout the city of Nyon.
