Perdtemps Square was born out of an urgent need: to renovate the Perdtemps playground, which no longer met safety standards. However, rather than simply renovating the playground while waiting for the Perdtemps Park project, the municipality, in collaboration with user-led workshops, sought to revitalize the space more quickly while allowing the community to get involved and contribute to the final project.

The Creation of the Park
Perdtemps Park is designed as a place for “explorers” of all ages and is structured around three themes: a hospitality area (refreshment stand), a play area (playground), and an activity area (pétanque courts). Its iconic furniture, designed specifically for this project, is the “platagone.” Inspired by nature and the plane trees that border the site, the platagone is a wooden piece of furniture whose shape evokes the leaves of the plane tree and which can be assembled with other platagones to create a surprising and diverse layout.

Feedback
From the very first weeks after installation, a survey was conducted among users encountered in the park to identify the strengths and weaknesses of this new layout.

The square’s new layout was quickly viewed as very positive by the majority of those surveyed. However, certain improvements were needed to make the site more comfortable and secure. Three objectives were identified:

  • Improving the user experience of the sandplay area

  • Enhancing site safety

  • Strengthen the recognition of the western section as part of the park’s design

These requests led to the renovation of the park in 2018.

When did this take place? The square was
created in late June 2017. Surveys were conducted between Wednesday, September 20, and Tuesday, September 26, 2017. Adaptations were then made between May and June 2018.
