Perdtemps

The transformation of Place Perdtemps—currently an open-air parking lot—into a vast, tree-lined urban park promises to profoundly change the dynamics of downtown Nyon in terms of its appeal and vibrancy. A project of this scale would be unthinkable without the active participation of the public. Each phase of the Perdtemps project is accompanied by tailored participatory processes.

Public Information Session on November 27, 2025

The City of Nyon organized a public information session on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., at the Musée du Léman (Salle des Combles). This meeting provided an opportunity to review the project’s progress, present the next steps, and discuss these developments. The session concluded with a friendly reception.

The initiative carried out in 2023

To support the study phase launched in March 2023, a participatory process took place over approximately six months. This participatory cycle aimed to outline guidelines regarding the uses and programming of the various spaces for the future Perdtemps Park. The results of all these discussions have been summarized and will be incorporated into the deliberations of the teams conducting the studies or utilized in subsequent phases. Led by a firm specializing in participatory processes, the cycle was structured around four thematic areas: 

• Public Spaces Section (general public):

  • March 11–12: launch, information booths

  • May 2: “Functions and Uses” World Café workshop

  • May 16: traveling sketching session and visual workshop on “landscape design forms”

• Media Library Section (by invitation only):

  • May 6: workshop on modeling uses

• Commercial Activities Component (by invitation only):

  • June 6: Brainstorming workshop on “commercial vitality and customer experience”

• Summary Session (general public):

  • September 30: Presentation Session

Simplification of the project

The initial project called for, in addition to the park and the underground parking garage, a shopping mall, pavilions, and a media library. Legal changes related to built, natural, and landscape heritage have taken place, and now require better integration of heritage elements and tree cover. In December 2023, the City approved a streamlined version of the project, while preserving its essence: a large, tree-lined urban park and an underground parking garage. This new direction not only simplifies the project and its implementation in terms of planning and construction timelines but also improves its feasibility.

A project designed in collaboration with the community from the very beginning

Even before the project’s official launch, the City inaugurated its “user laboratory” concept—intended for several public spaces throughout Nyon—starting with Perdtemps Square. This temporary installation features a playground, a refreshment stand, and a pop-up garden, providing a place to gather right in the city center, close to shops and parking. This full-scale model allows people to envision the future development of Perdtemps Park, reclaim this space, experiment with it, and help shape its evolution.

At the same time, when the project competition was launched, a citizens’ group was appointed to support the process. Two members of this group were included in the panel of experts and were thus able to contribute to the selection of the winning project. Finally, to ensure a smooth transition between these initiatives and the cycle launched in 2023, a discussion session was organized in late 2022 with everyone who had been involved in one way or another in the initiatives organized to date.
