Square Perdtemps

Opened in 2017, the interim development of Perdtemps Square offers a playground and a refreshment stand where people can gather right in the city center, close to shops and parking. This full-scale model allows visitors to envision the future development of Perdtemps Park.

The City’s goal, as part of the “Cœur de ville” concept, is to transform Perdtemps—currently an open-air parking lot—into a park and gathering space. The parking lot itself will be relocated underground.

To ensure the project best reflects the public’s expectations, various participatory initiatives have been launched, including a user lab called Square Perdtemps. This 1:1-scale model is designed to test various layout options with the public in order to inform the planning of the future final park design.

Since its launch in 2017, it has undergone several updates based on feedback and suggestions from the public (see below).

Renovated in 2022, Perdtemps Square—to which a temporary garden has been added—now offers a playground and a refreshment stand where people can gather, right in the heart of downtown.

What’s in it?

  • an outdoor refreshment stand, open both during the day and in the evening during the warmer months

  • a sandplay area, open and safe for children

  • seating that can be used for picnics, sunbathing, or climbing hills

  • picnic tables

  • pergolas

  • a game room

  • petanque courts

  • two ping-pong tables

  • a fountain

  • an open cabinet (next to the game room)

  • a public restroom

    How to get there?

Take bus 805 to the Petit Perdtemps stop (toward the train station) or the Rue Saint-Jean stop (toward Prangins). The Square is just a 3-minute walk from the train station!

The Final Design for Perdtemps Park

The creation of a public park and an underground parking garage in Perdtemps marks the very concrete implementation of the “Coeur de ville” concept. The goal of freeing up this space by moving parking underground is to enhance the vibrancy of the city center by creating a continuous route of terraces, squares, and shops stretching from the train station to the Château.

Following the parallel design commissions (design competition), the Municipality selected the “Pleine Terre” project from among nine competitors. It has been working ever since to bring this project to fruition.
