The Process
In 2018, the process of parallel design commissions (or design competitions) to select the winning design for the future Perdtemps Park was launched. The City of Nyon wishes to accompany this process with a participatory initiative through the creation of a citizens’ group.Twenty individuals and twenty representatives from the local business and nonprofit sectors worked alongside the professional teams to ensure that the knowledge and experiences of the city’s residents were taken into account. Among them, two people became members of the competition jury to incorporate the feedback from the citizen group.
Process
The process was designed to be cyclical and iterative, involving:On-site workshops (to test and experiment with uses, particularly via Perdtemps Square)
Roundtable discussions (to debate proposals and make recommendations)
Jury meetings (to help select the winning project)
Summary
At the conclusion of the process, six priority recommendations emerged from the citizen group’s discussions:Ensuring year-round use of the park
Develop a design that promotes biodiversity
Clarify the synergies between the different spaces
Plan for management and promote the repurposing of future developments
Ensure continuous pathways and sustainable transportation toward the city
Maintain the project’s simplicity and clarity
